FREEHOLD, NJ - In celebration of National Adoption Day, the Monmouth Vicinage will hold a program on Thursday,  Nov. 17 at 1:30 p.m. in the Jury Assembly Room in the lower level of the west wing of the Monmouth County Courthouse, 71 Monument Park, Freehold.

“We look forward to joining in this collective national effort to celebrate and encourage adoption,” said Assignment Judge Lawrence M. Lawson. “The annual Adoption Day program serves as a reminder to the community that there are many children in Monmouth County who are awaiting a family.”

Adoptions will be finalized for 21 children ranging from 5 months to 15 years of age. Fourteen of those adoptions were arranged through the New Jersey Division of Youth and Family Services (DYFS).

Judge Lawson and family division children-in-court Judge John R. Tassini will offer remarks at the program.  Other speakers include Monmouth Bar Association President James Paone II and adoptive parent Beverly Daniels, who adopted her three nephews and her friend’s five foster children when the friend died suddenly.

Representatives will be available to provide information about the adoption process. Attendees also will have the opportunity to speak with staff from the Monmouth County Surrogate’s Office and the New Jersey Division of Youth and Family Services about adopting children in foster care. If interested in becoming a licensed foster/adoptive parent, call 1-877-NJFOSTER.

From July 1, 2010 to June 30, 2011, the Monmouth Vicinage worked with the surrogate’s office to finalize the adoption of 138 children and nine adults. Of that total, 47 children were placed through DYFS.
