ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS, NJ - An earthquake registering a magnitude 5.9 and centered in Mineral, Virginia, Northwest of Richmond, was felt in the Atlantic Highlands, New Jersey area at about 1:51 pm today.  No damage was reported in the area.

The earth's crust on the east coast is among the oldest and hardest. As a result shockwaves would likely be felt a great distance from the epicenter, according to officials at the U.S. Geological Survey.
