MIDDLETOWN, NJ —  The Monmouth County Park System invites area residents to the Deep Cut Gardens Open House on Sunday, June 12.  Held from 10am-3pm at Deep Cut Gardens, Red Hill Road, Middletown, this free event features tours, demonstrations and lectures. Garden tours will be offered from 10:15-11:15am and 2-3pm.  Ongoing demonstrations include vegetable and herb gardening, home composting, bonsai and more. Lectures will be geared toward the home gardener.

Visitors will also have a chance to see the Plein Air Painters of the Jersey Coast in action as they use the gardens for inspiration. The Rutgers Master Gardeners of Monmouth County will be on hand to answer gardening questions and help children pot a plant seedling to take home. The Jersey Shore Rose Society will provide information on roses and their culture. The Deep Cut Bonsai Society will be giving demonstrations and answering questions on the art and cultivation of bonsai.

Deep Cut Gardens is the Park System’s site dedicated to the home gardener. The 54 acres of gardens and greenhouses are planned as a living catalog of cultivated and native plant materials to be observed through the seasons. Its renovated rose parterre, originally built in 1935, features 52 varieties of roses with over 180 bushes.
