Monmouth County Historical Association President Claire Knopf and her husband, Heywood Knopf tour the Historical Association's room at the Show House.

The Historical Association’s design space features a number of items that were imported from China in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Of particular interest are sections of hand-painted wallpaper made in 1795 and a rosewood gentleman’s dressing table of the same date, both of which were brought back from China by Colts Neck native Charles Haight and displayed in his home.   Also on view is a selection of Chinese export porcelain dating from the 1760s to about 1810, which was donated to the Historical Association in the 1940s from the estate of Helena Woolworth McCann. The space was designed in a collaborative effort between MCHA Trustees Nelson Kuperberg and Courtney Trent and MCHA staff members Bernadette Rogoff and Dr. Lee Ellen Griffith. Generous help and donations of time and materials from 4 Wall Professional Paperhanging, Carpets by Robert, Charles B. Hembling and Son, Frame to Please, Jo Pawlo and Plumline Wallpaper made the installation possible.

“We are delighted to be able to support the efforts of the VNA and pleased to showcase some of the treasures that the Historical Association holds. We hope that visitors to the Show house will enjoy the exhibit.” stated Dr. Griffith.
