SANDY HOOK, NJ - The Sandy Hook Foundation, a non-profit organization established in 1989 as the Official Friends Group of the National Park Service at Sandy Hook, has announced the 2011 FREE Summer Concert Series schedule.

From June 15 – August 24, 2011, every Wednesday at 6pm (weather permitting) at Beach Area E on Sandy Hook, top performers will draw thousands for musical entertainment in this beautiful setting.  Each week from 3,000 – 5,000 people come to listen, dance, relax and enjoy the live music while eating picnic dinners brought from home.  For those who prefer to purchase food, there is a snack bar nearby.  There are also restrooms, and beach wheelchairs may be reserved ahead of time by phoning HS Concessions at 732-872-0025.  The concerts end promptly at 8:15pm.  Parking is well-organized, and free.

John O’Neill, concert series manager, said “Each year we try to include at least one new group. This summer we have also added an additional week of programming, making a total of ten concerts.  The new band Rip Tide  will kick off the season on June 15.  Other popular repeat performers like Brian Kirk and The Jirks, Quincy Mumford, Tim McLoone and The Shirleys, and JoBonanno and the Godsons of Soul are all coming back again.”

Since 1992 the Sandy Hook Foundation has organized the series and over 250,000 people have enjoyed these special evening performances.  “Year after year families from all over New Jersey come out every Wednesday evening in the summer and enjoy these wonderful shows for free.  The Foundation is happy to provide something that brings so many people out to Sandy Hook,” said Betsy Barrett, Sandy Hook Foundation president “and we thank the National Park Service for their continued assistance with making the concerts a reality.”
