Gift will spark the newly announced center for surgical excellence at Riverview

Red Bank, NJ  –Riverview Medical Center today announced a $5 million charitable contribution to the Medical Center from Dr. and Mrs. Robert Rechnitz. Bob and Joan are the founders of the Two River Theater Company, a professional regional theater located on Bridge Avenue in Red Bank, N.J. Bob is also a retired professor of English, teaching locally at Monmouth University for more than thirty years.

The $5 million donation supports Riverview Medical Center’s construction of its new 22,000 square foot center for surgical excellence at Riverview, a project that will enable patients to receive advanced surgical procedures close to home, instead of traveling to New York City or Philadelphia. The charitable contribution is one of the largest single gifts in Riverview’s history.

“We are pleased to help Riverview Medical Center enhance its position as one of the region’s leading surgical healthcare providers,” says Bob Rechnitz. “Riverview Medical Center holds a special place in my heart,” says Joan Rechnitz. “We are proud to support an organization that provides exceptional levels of care for everyone in our community.”

The center for surgical excellence at Riverview will include: Two sophisticated specialty surgical suites,  renovated post-anesthesia care area, relocated and renovated same-day surgery suite, and a state-of-the-art conference and educational center.

A portion of the Rechnitz gift will be used to fund the conference and educational center, designed to provide the necessary resources to attract superior surgeons with niche specialties who wish to attend educational forums, dedicated lectures, seminars, and symposiums.

“We are truly honored, that Joan and Bob Rechnitz believe in and are deeply committed to our pursuit of medical excellence,” says David Flood, president of the Meridian Health Foundation. “The impact of their gift will reach countless numbers of people served by our family of hospitals. I am grateful Joan and Bob’s philanthropy embraces our mission and the exceptional care provided by Riverview Medical Center’s doctors, nurses, staff and volunteers. We are blessed to have the support of the Rechnitz family.”

Tim Hogan, FACHE, president of Riverview Medical Center, observed, “This transformational gift will help our surgical specialty physicians, nurses and staff maintain and build upon our already truly exemplary program.  Most importantly, it will provide us with more state-of-the-art space and technology to better care for the patients we serve.”
