COLTS NECK, NJ —  Thank you. Two simple words that when put together mean so much to the people receiving them. Perhaps no group deserves to hear them more than the Monmouth County Park System Volunteers. In 2010, 897 people volunteered 19,867 hours of service and assisted with park facilities, programs and events. These people will be honored during the Park System’s Annual Volunteer Recognition Ceremony on Sunday, March 6. Held at the Hominy Hill Golf Course, this event is the Park System’s way of saying thank you to these dedicated individuals who do so much.

On any given day, volunteers can be found assisting with therapeutic riding lessons, leading a trip or assisting in offices. They also garden, plant trees and monitor endangered birds. The Park System’s Trails Team, a group of volunteers dedicated to building and maintaining over 120 miles of trails, travels throughout the county to assist staff. Many special events and races such as Creatures of the Night, Thompson Park Day, Monmouth County Fair and the Timberbrook Triathlon depend on volunteers to run smoothly.

These are just some of the ways that volunteers help the Park System. Although the event only lasts a few hours, the appreciation the Park System feels for its volunteers continues indefinitely. Here’s a list of volunteers who gave more than 40 hours in 2010:
