Sandy Hook, NJ  - Citizens are urged to attend federal Public Hearing held by the US Coast Guard and Maritime Administration to voice opposition to proposal by Liberty Natural Gas to build an industrial facility off Asbury Park to import foreign liquefied natural gas (LNG).  The hearings are scheduled for February 8th, 9th, and 10th. The hearings will be from 5p.m. until close and held at three locations throughout the region.  (See below)

“LNG is not in the public’s interest. It is dirty, expensive, and threatens our quality of life,” said Cindy Zipf, Executive Director of Clean Ocean Action.  “The United States has a robust supply of domestic natural gas and is energy independent; we do not need and we should not be seeking foreign sources from countries like Libya and Tunisia.  This is an outrageous plan for something we do not need.  This project is lose-lose for citizens.” Zipf added.

“Most importantly, the proposed pipeline route will run through some of the most densely populated regions of New Jersey, including Perth Amboy, Woodbridge, and Carteret and will significantly impact essential fish habitat off the Jersey Shore,” concluded Sean Dixon, Coastal Policy Attorney for COA.  “Public participation is essential to this process.  Citizens are encouraged to attend and let their voices be heard.”
