ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS, NJ - Mother Teresa Regional School in Atlantic Highlands prepares to show that “Hockey Cares.” Tomorrow night from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm, students who participate in the New Jersey Devils Street Hockey program will be raising money to assist the American Red Cross with Hurricane relief for those in New Jersey affected by Hurricane Irene. Students will participate in a variety of contests, such as a skills competition and a score-o competition. Preschool students who do not participate in the league will be able to learn skills as they play a game of nerf hockey at 4:15 pm. Former Devils player, Jim Dowd will be on hand to speak to the students, sign autographs and participate in shoot outs with the children in attendance. “Raising money and responding to disasters is part of our culture at Mother Teresa Regional School. We have responded to some major disasters in the past and we are happy to have a fun way that our children can help their neighbors” noted Principal Melissa Whelan Wisk “I was thrilled when Mr. and Mrs. Duminski came to me with the idea to have a fundraiser with the hockey program for Hurricane Relief.” The New Jersey Devils have donated several items that were autographed as well as all of the equipment that is used in the Street Devils program. The NJ Devils Mascot will also be on hand to cheer on the students as they play against the parents and teachers. Mrs. Wisk commented “I am a little nervous about the game since I don’t know much about hockey. I have seen these students play and they are good.” All members of the public are invited to attend. Admission for adults is $2 and for children 10-18 it is $1. Donations of items are being accepted by the American Red Cross.
