FREEHOLD, NJ - Brandi Shroyer, age 33, of Wall, pled guilty today before the Honorable Lisa P.Thornton, J.S.C., to one count of Criminal Sexual Contact, a fourth degree crime, for engaging in sexual contact with a 16 year old student from the Rugby School in Wall, New Jersey, while she had supervisory and/or disciplinary power over that student as a result of her employment at the school. At the time of her sentencing, the State will recommend that the Shroyer receive a 364 day jail sentence as a condition of probation. The plea will also require Shroyer to register as a sex offender under Megan's Law. The victim and his family were consulted and consented to the resolution of the matter as detailed herein.

At the time of this crime, Shroyer, had been employed as a teacher’s aide/clinical assistant at the Rugby School in Wall, N.J, for approximately 1½ years. Shroyer used her position as a teacher’s aide/clinical assistant to develop a relationship with the victim, a 16 year old male student at the school, which eventually turned sexual. After a joint investigation, conducted by the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office and the Spring Lake Heights Police Department, with aid from the Wall Township and Hazlet Police Departments, Shroyer was arrested on June 12, 2009, and charged with Sexual Assault and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Bail was set by the Honorable Thomas F. Scully, J.S.C. at $100,000, which Shroyer posted later that day. Shroyer was terminated form the Rugby School immediately thereafter and has not been employed by a school since.

Shroyer will appear before Judge Thornton for sentencing on November 16, 2012. The case is assigned to Special Deputy Attorney General, Acting Assistant Prosecutor, Laurie B.Gerhardt. The defendant is represented by Edward Bertuccio, Esq.
