| DOE COMMISSIONER CERTIFIES HHRS BUDGET |
by Allan Dean
HIGHLANDS, NJ — Department of Education Commissioner Lucille Davy on Friday notified the Henry Hudson School District that she was certifying the general tax levy of $6,645,867 for the school year being July 1, 2006 and ending June 30, 2007.
She wrote to HHRS Superintendent Kathryn Fedina, " The Department encourages regional school districts to continue negotiations beyond the statutory deadline in an effort to reach an agreement. Henry Hudson Regional School District governing bodies reached an agreement after the May 19 statutory deadline. The amount of the final agreement was accepted by Henry Hudson Regional School Board of Education and Monmouth County Superintendent as sufficient to provide a thorough and efficient education, and therefore, I am accepting the amount agreed upon by all governing bodies."
The agreement calls for $10,006 to be cut from the HHRS budget that was defeated by voter in April. That cut was agreed to by both governing bodies and the school district. The cut is offset by a cut in the health insurance premiums paid by the school district of the same amount.
Dr. Fedina said that no school programs would be affected by the cut.
