LINCROFT, NJ - Brookdale Community College's Visiting Writers Series will welcome Bob Hicok to Navesink I room of the Warner Student Life Center Wednesday, April 5. The community is invited to his 7:00 p.m. reading. The event is free. Parking is most convenient in lot 6 an 7.

Hicok is a self-taught "dynamic and funny" poet, initially without an M.F.A. or even a bachelor's degree. He was an automotive die maker prior to beginning his writing. He has since earned an M.F.A. and currently teaches in the M.F.A. program at Virginia Tech. His most recent book, Insomnia Diary was published by Pittsburgh in 2004.

Chaired by Assistant Professor of English, Laura McCullough, the Brookdale Visiting Writers Series presents a variety of renown and emerging writers during the fall and spring semesters. Award winning novelist, Jeffrey Ford, will read on May 6 in concert with The Brookdale Spring Writers Conference to be held at the college May 5-7.

A related poetry event on Tuesday, April 18, will be a special Book Release Reading and Reception for McCullough's Open Book Press publication of her collection of poems, The Dancing Bear. The event is sponsored by the English Club and will be held in the Warner Student Life Center at 7:00 p.m. Refreshments will be served. A donation of $3 is requested at the door for the English Club.
