NAVESINK, NJ — On Sunday, November 27, the Jersey Shore Running Club (JSRC), the Middletown Youth Athletic Association (MYAA) and Habitat for Humanity of Long Branch will host the fifth annual Navesink Challenge, which starts and finishes at Bodman Park in Middletown, New Jersey. Proceeds from the event will benefit MYAA and Habitat for Humanity. MYAA sponsors baseball and soccer programs, as well as other athletic activities in Middletown. Habitat for Humanity is a Christian-based ecumenical, non-profit organization dedicated to building decent, affordable housing. In the past four years, the Navesink Challenge has attracted over 1,200 participants and raised more than $11,000 for the beneficiaries.
The Navesink Challenge includes two races, both featuring scenic country roads and several hilly sections. A challenging 15K run begins at 10 AM and a 5K run/walk begins at 10:10 AM (please note the time changes from previous years). The 15K run is part of the Jersey Shore Grand Prix series (www.jsgrandprix.com). Commemorative mugs will be given to the top 25 men and women in the 15K and the top ten (10) men and women in the 5K. Unique handcrafted wooden plaques will be awarded to the top five (5) men and women in the 15K and the top three (3) men and women in the 5K. In addition, “Middle-of-the-Pack” prizes will be awarded in the featured 15K. Random prizes and a grand prize drawing will also be offered, as well as food, beverages and hot soup. The Outback Steakhouse of Middletown is hosting a terrific post race party for all participants immediately after the awards ceremony. On-line registration is available at JerseyRunner.com.
