RED BANK , NJ — Writer’s Ink, a group of award-winning published New Jersey poets, will present a series of poetry events every Saturday in April at the Red Bank Public Library to celebrate National Poetry Month 2005. Following the successful launch of their second poetry anthology, Poetic Reflections of Monmouth County, at the library on February 26, 2005, Writer’s Ink has announced that they will offer five different poetry programs at the library in April including poetry readings, tutorials, critiques, and teacher workshops featuring many of New Jersey best known poets. “This innovative series is something new for Red Bank, and we hope it will be the beginning of many more important poetry events in town,” said Gloria Healy, Shrewsbury, founder of Writer’s Ink, which has made its home at the library for over ten years. The first program in the series will feature readings by five women poets, Alissa Pecora, Paula Newcomer, Pattie Conroy, Gretna Wilkinson, and Elaine Olaoye. The program will begin at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 2, 2005. An open mic session will follow the readings. The second event will feature a reading and seminar lead by poet and author Michelle Cameron, who will read and discuss her book In the Shadow of the Globe. The book will be available for purchase at the program. Reservations are recommended for this program since space may be limited; teachers who would like to bring students to this illuminating session on Shakespeare’s background and contemporaries must pre-register. The program will begin at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 9, 2005. The third event, “Teachers Teaching Teachers,” featuring readings and workshops for teachers only, will be lead by poets Amanda Berry, Gina Larkin, Gladys Goldberg, Karen Haefelein, Susan Martin, Christopher Bogart, and Therese Halscheid. Reservations are required. The program will begin at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 16, 2005. The fourth event will present poets John Baldwin, Vincent Larkin, Jerome Leary, Chet Shadowitz, and Robert Rosenbloom offering readings and individual tutorials. Each participant is encouraged to bring one poem to be critiqued by one of the poets following the readings. Reservations are recommended since space may be limited; teachers who would like to bring students in poetry writing classes must pre-register. The program will begin at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, April 23, 2005. The final event will feature readings and book signings by five noted New Jersey poets, Emanuel Di Pasquale, Frank Finale, Gloria Rovder Healy, Charles Johnson, and Bob McKenty.
