SGT. PAT'S 5K RUN AND 2 MILE FITNESS WALK TO BENEFIT OFFICER PATRICK KING SCHOLARSHIP FUNDS, PBA LOCALS 10 AND 364, AND HOLIDAY EXPRESS

LONG BRANCH, NJ — On Saturday, March 26, 2005 the Jersey Shore Running Club will hold our Sixteenth Annual 5K Run on the promenade and boardwalk in Long Branch, overlooking the scenic Atlantic Ocean. Since 1998, the event has honored and remembered slain Long Branch Police Officer Sergeant Patrick King.

The 5K race course is completely flat and fast. We also have a Two Mile Fitness Walk along the same course, and kid's races of various distances.
T-shirts to participants and everyone will enjoy the post-race refreshments while awaiting the awards ceremony, raffles and grand prize drawing. All are then invited to a free post-race Pasta Party at the Celtic Cottage, a local cafe.

In the 5K, we offer 5-Year Age Group awards, and a Racewalk Division. In addition, we are encouraging the participation of area police departments and law enforcement groups by challenging them to a competition: there will be awards to the first 5 PBA member finishers, both male and female, and awards to the PBA Local and the Law Enforcement Agency with the most participants.

New this year, is our School Participation Competition. Local schools will receive prizes based on the number of run and walk participants representing the school. Please contact the race committee for details at the JSRC hotline 732 542 6090.

The race is again being co-sponsored by Long Branch PBA Local 10 and Oceanport PBA Local 364. Portions of the net proceeds will be used to benefit to two Patrick King Scholarship Funds, awarded to deserving local high school graduates at Long Branch High School and Shore Regional High School, and Holiday Express, whose efforts uniquely bring the gift of human kindness to those in need during the holiday season and throughout the year.

The 5K Run/Racewalk will begin at 11:00am, followed by a 2 Mile Fitness Walk at 11:05am, and Children's age group races at 11:30am. Post-Registration will take place the day of the race beginning at 9:30am.

Entry forms are available at several running stores in the area, or can be downloaded from the website: http://www.jsrc.org. Please call Race Director Philip Hinck, 732-571-2162 to request information by mail.
