RICH ROBINSON RETURNS TO HIS RADIO
ROOTS AT WBJB 90.5 THE NIGHT |
LINCROFT, NJ —
Brookdale
Public Radio, 90.5 The NIGHT (WBJB) is proud to announce the addition of Rich
Robinson to its management team. Robinson will take over the Program
Director/Assistant Manager position at the station on July 01, 2004. Tom
Brennan, Station Manager says, "I'm looking forward to working with Rich. I'm
glad he's back with the station."
Back in the mid 70’s, a group of college students who shared the common ground
of a love of radio and music came together to put newly licensed radio station
WBJB on the air. Under the guidance of Rick Hansen and Lou Pullano, this
collection of broadcast novices helped lay the foundation of an award winning
community radio station, which nearly 30 years later is still working with, and
for, the residents of Monmouth County. Among those students who first sat behind
the microphone in the original on-air studio was Rich Robinson who completed his
degree in Communications from Brookdale.
Years after graduating from Brookdale Community College, Robinson returned as a
member of the Community Advisory Board, helping the next generation of Brookdale
students learn and experience radio broadcasting.
Now, after a successful commercial radio career, which started as the original
program director at legendary alternative rock station FM1063 (WHTG-FM), and
also included several record company positions and radio jobs, Rich has once
again come back home to WBJB, this time as Program Director.
“This is the only job that could ever get me back into radio.” Rich said. “It’s
a chance to come back home, and give back to the station and the school that
helped launch my career. I can’t think of a better way to repay Rick Hansen, Lou
Pullano, and the rest of the faculty and staff who helped me all those years
ago, than to come back to WBJB, and help the students of Brookdale learn more
about radio, while at the same time, continuing WBJB’s longstanding commitment
to the community. While commercial radio faces competition from other media for
listeners, Non-commercial radio is in a great position to capture an even larger
audience. To me, this is a wonderful opportunity and challenge. Plus, it’s going
to be great leading this station towards its 30th Anniversary, and beyond.”
