CPR MANIKINS DONATION FROM AUTO DEALERS FOUNDATION TO MIDDLETOWN FIRST AID

atlantic highlands herald

MIDDLETOWN, NJ –  The National Automobile Dealers Charitable Foundation and the New Jersey Coalition of Automotive Retailers have donated a family of CPR training manikins – a Resusci-Anne, Junior and Baby – to Middletown Township in memory of residents lost during the World Trade Center Tragedy.

The Township’s all-volunteer Emergency Services Department, which aided survivors that fled across the Raritan Bay on September 11, 2001, accepted the donation during formal ceremonies today. Middletown lost 37 residents that day, which is the greatest loss per capita of any community as a result of the terrorist attacks.

Members of the National Auto Dealers Association Charitable Foundation present three manikins to Mayor Rosemarie Peters and members of Middletown Emergency Services.

“We thank the National Automobile Dealers Charitable Foundation and the local auto retailers for honoring the memory of Middletown residents who lost their lives in the World Trade Center tragedy.” Said Middletown Mayor Rosemarie D. Peters. “The manikins will allow first-aiders to practice and teach the administration of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to adults, children and infants.”

A different type of CPR training is required for adults, children and infants. These CPR units give signals telling when the trainee is applying the right pressure in the right spot or breathing quickly into the victim’s mouth. With the training, students learn the feel of giving, quick lifesaving emergency treatment, noted Middletown Emergency Services Assistant Director Larry Schachtel.

“While our gift of training manikins will not and can not replace any of those lost on 9-11, it is our sincere hope that the training provided through (these manikins) will help keep many other families intact.” noted Paul Larson, Chairman of NJ CAR and owner of Larson Ford in Lakewood. Mr. Larson was joined by Robert J. Maguire, past Chairman of NADA and owner of the Maguire Automotive Group in Burlington and Ocean Counties, Robert De Felice, owner of the Circle Automotive Group in Shrewsbury and NJ CAR President, James Appleton.

State Senator Joseph Kyrillos noted that there has been an increase in long-term survivors from ventricular fibrillation since larger numbers of Americans began to receive CPR training. CPR training teaches a person how to keep the heart beating while professional help is coming.

The donation was made possible through the Nation Automobile Dealers Charitable Foundation. Each year CPR training manikins are donated to health, civic and educational organizations nationwide. Established in 1975, the program has donated more than 2,200 manikins worth more than $1.5 million. More than one million people have been trained on Foundation manikins. The Foundation is part of the National Automobile Dealers Association. Its membership includes over 19,000 franchised new car and truck dealers in the United States.
