NEW JERSEY STATE SURFBOAT ROWING CHAMPIONSHIP SLATED FOR JULY 9

atlantic highlands herald

BRICK, NJ — Rowers of all ages will gather at Beaton Boat Yard in Brick, NJ to experience the competition, camaraderie and wide array of unique craft in what is New Jersey’s largest surfboat rowing event. Viking Promotions’ signature event, the New Jersey State Rowing Championships, covers 7 miles of the open water of Barnegat Bay, passing through 14 beach communities from Mantoloking to Seaside Heights. This is a rare opportunity to see not only many of our areas top rowers (many lifeguards and former lifeguards), but a wide assortment of rescue boats, self-bailers, dories, Jersey Skiffs, and custom craft.

The race, with over 12 boat classes, 5 age groups and 5 rowing combinations, is instituting an “Exhibition” class this year open to any rowing craft. This years sponsors include O2GO water, Outback Steakhouse of Brick, NJ, Fosters, and Carlisle Paddles. The entire event is a benefit for the Toms River Seaport Society and Maritime Museum, a volunteer association that houses, restores, and maintains wooden boats as part of American history. More information about the event including pictures, registration forms, course descriptions, and rules can be found at www.vikingpromotions.com, or by calling James Kotran at 732-237-0576.
