In an edition of your weekly in June 2005, you wrote an article regarding our daughter Sarah when she received a $500.00 Scholarship from the Monmouth County Freeholders. I thought you would like to know that Sarah did Graduate from the Newark College of Engineering, one of the six schools within the New Jersey Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and through hard work she was able to achieve a high GPA that was awarded with a MAGNA CUM LAUDE citation on her diploma. We are proud of her achievement and if it had not been for the NJ Stars and NJ Stars ii program and her desire to learn and excel we would have been unable to provide her with this valuable opportunity. My question would be has anyone researched and reported how well this program is or is not working and how will the recent changes, limit or affect the opportunities of others who may be disqualified and unable to obtain this valuable resource. Our Daughter was able to attend 5 semesters at Brookdale Community College, Lincroft and 4 semesters at NJIT in Newark where her goal came to fruition when she walked to the Podium with nearly 2300 other graduates at the Prudential Center on May 17th, 2010.
She becomes the second family member to graduate from NCE. Her Great-Grandfather graduated on June 14th, 1929 from NCE with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.
We can only hope that as our country returns to a more prosperous economy, that the leaders of local, county, state and federal governments realize the need to invest in the education of the current and future generations.
