Dear FRIENDS:

Like you, I am always thinking about ways to increase the attractiveness of our town and the allure or the municipal harbor, not to mention the revenue produced by the harbor users to help offset taxes.

With that in mind, I would like to propose that the Mayor & Council and the Harbor Commission, perhaps in conjunction with the Chamber of Commerce, the A.H. Yacht Club and the A.H. Lions Club, which was largely responsible for the harbor's development (1938-1942), begin seriously investigating the erection of a smallish lighthouse in the marina as an attraction to lure visitors. It is also quite possible the borough might be able to secure state and/or county grants to help finance the project, much as was done for the Bayshore Trail, and/or a federal grant, much as we did to assure the rebuilding of the harbor after Hurricane Sandy.

I have mentioned the possibility of such a lighthouse to several of you in the not-too-distant past.

I believe such a nautical attraction, perhaps coupled with an ice cream parlor, would give visitors another reason to visit our beautiful harbor. I have seen such attractions at various waterfront locations around the country, including at the marina in Hilton Head, SC, and most recently at the Sandy Hook Bay Marina in Highlands.

The proposed lighthouse would not have to be a functioning one although that would be worth considering as an aid to navigation.

The lighthouse would be a natural promotional tool inasmuch as the Chamber of Commerce is already using such a symbol on its logo.

I would be willing to participate in the discussions and planning for such a project.

I look forward to hearing from you in the very near future.

Warmest regards,
