With the election a few weeks away, I'd like to express my support and encourage voters to return Rosemarie Peters to the position of Monmouth County Surrogate. Having served as Deputy Surrogate for Mrs. Peters for a number of years, I have first-hand knowledge of her many accomplishments in that position.
Shortly after becoming Judge of the Surrogate's Court, she worked closely with a computer vendor to upgrade the operating system used by all employees of the department. The result was the most comprehensive, efficient software of any Surrogate's Office in the state. Since the Surrogate's office is part of the court system, her employees were now able to manage Superior Court cases more easily and handle probate matters better.
In addition, Mrs. Peters initiated a rigorous follow-up system that allows the office to track reports required to be filed with the court by guardians of incapacitated persons, many of them elderly. She hired an accountant to review and audit the financial accountings being filed by guardians in order to detect possible financial abuse. Guardians who don't comply are referred to the Superior Court Probate Judge for further follow-up.
Mrs. Peters is a hands-on, full time Surrogate, who works closely with her staff on a daily basis. Her legal background allows her to make the judicial decisions that are part of her statutory responsibilities and to help her employees understand the reasoning behind these decisions. I encourage all voters, regardless of party, to cast their vote for Rosemarie Peters for Surrogate, allowing her to continue to bring her energy, creativity and professionalism to this important office.
