Dear Editor,

For far too long, police bribery in the form of FOP/PBA (Fraternal Order of Police and Policeman's Benevolent Association) cards has been actively encouraged in the State of New Jersey.

To put an end to this unethical practice, the NJ State Legislature must pass legislation to criminalize displaying a law enforcement union affinity card at the time of a police encounter as attempting to bribe or otherwise unduly influence a public servant. The police must be required to confiscate the card for evidence.

Additionally, displaying a law enforcement union "shield" in a vehicle window must be criminalized as impersonation of a police vehicle and an attempt to unduly influence public servants. The vehicle must be seized under civil forfeiture laws, and only released upon court order.

New Jerseyans are sick and tired of our overpaid, corrupt police and their fan club who receives special treatment. Friends and family of these armed thugs are allowed to openly break the law while everyone else is harassed. Your job is not dangerous, in fact you are a danger to lives of the public, particularly young black men.

The days of tolerating police thuggery in NJ are coming to an end. Corrupt police officers are advised to resign and run while you can.
