The Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders and Neptune Township are organizing the 1st Annual Pound the Pavement for Purple 5K Run/2 Mile Walk to help raise awareness for Pancreatic Cancer. November is Pancreatic Cancer Awareness month, and we thought organizing this race would assist in doing just that. The Pancreatic Cancer Run/Walk will be benefiting the Lustgarten Foundation whose main goal is finding a CURE for Pancreatic Cancer. The Run is scheduled to take place on November 1, 2014. Runners will step off at 10:00 a.m. with walkers stepping off at 10:15 a.m. The location of the race is Veterans Memorial Park, 703 Old Corlies Avenue in Neptune, New Jersey. Online registration is available until October 28th by going to http://eliteracingsystems.com/wp2014/pancreatic-cancer-benefit-5kregistration/. However, you may also register day of the race as well. Pre-Registration will be until October 30th and is highly recommended.

This particular cause is something I have strong emotional ties to because I had the misfortune of witnessing a very dear friend of mine’s courageous battle with this devastating disease only to see him defeated in the end. For me, taking part in organizing the 1st Annual Pound the Pavement for Purple Run is my way of helping to keep his memory alive along with helping to keep the memory alive of anyone else who has had a family member or friend lose their battle with Pancreatic Cancer.

The race on November 1st is a tremendous countywide effort and the community response already received has been overwhelmingly positive. Ultimately, Neptune Township and I along with the full support of the entire Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders would like to encourage everyone to come out to help us try and raise awareness for Pancreatic Cancer. Please consider joining us on November 1st as a runner, walker, volunteer or just to be present to show your support of the cause. Time is ticking and there is still much to do in order to ensure the success of this effort. Anyone interested in more information on how to get involved please feel free to contact my office at (732) 431-7396. My assistant will be more than happy to answer any of your questions and guide you in the right direction.

It is with much hope that I look forward to seeing both familiar and new faces on November 1st. I not only am participating in organizing the 1st Annual Pound the Pavement for Purple Run, but I will also be a runner in the race. Please join me at the finish line and help raise awareness for Pancreatic Cancer so that we might be one day closer to finding a Cure!
