RED BANK, NJ - Red Bank Crop Hunger Walk kicked off  its 33rd season on Sept. 9th with our 2013 rally at the Red Bank First Baptist Church with a full house of recruiters from all over the area. They were entertained and educated by the  Crop Teen Leaders as Quiz Show participants in the new CROP HUNGER WALK CHALLENGE,   4 teams competed to answer questions on hunger, water, What is CROP? And our own special Red Bank Area CROP Hunger Walk, interspersed with applause and "commercials"  about how to raise funds for the walk.   Dr. Marie Varley, retired Director of Metro NY-NJ Crop, was remembered for her tireless efforts on behalf of hungry and homeless "neighbors" and for caring about our whole world as she travelled on behalf of Church World Service.  Dr. Varley passed away on Labor Day.

Sponsor sheets, signs, and education materials were given out so that groups can gather walkers and runners, build teams and encourage ways of raising money and collecting food for the big Walk Day on Sunday, October 20th at Red Bank Regional High School.   Crop Walks are the community hunger appeal of Church World Service, and make possible the quick response to disasters.   Our 17 local partner programs were there to help when Super Storm Sandy hit last October 29th, even though some were flooded, and one meal program moved to another site.  They all continue to assist in the even larger needs of local residents who lost homes, furnishings,& jobs.  With your help as Crop Walkers we were able to bring in Church World Service support of $1.5 million in goods and services to help rebuild our New Jersey/New York area.

Our efforts here at home also help with the resettlement of displaced people through some of our global partners.  2,000,000 refugees have fled the country of Syria and  their bombed out homes leaving with nothing but the clothes on their backs and what they can carry. CWS provides blankets, tents, water tablets, food packages, hygiene kits and much more, bringing hope into seemingly hopeless situations.

Our Red Bank CROP WALK DAY is fun for the whole family, with great music, clowns, community garden tables, advocacy tables, art contest, and refreshments. We hope to raise $120,000 and bring in 14,000 pounds of food, for distribution to 20 local pantries.   Come join us in this effort!
