While I sympathize with the plight of Fred Schecter’s wife, and the plight of other New Jersey patients who have been stymied in their attempt to obtain legal cannabis, I must correct a mischaracterization in Mr. Schecter’s letter to the editor dated April 22, 2013. In it he writes ‘Each visit was perfunctory without any medical attention other than swiping my credit card.’ Mr. Schecter makes no mention of the copious medical records which I reviewed with him and his wife, the detailed history which I elicited from them, and the extensive counseling which I provided to both the patient and Mr. Schecter, in keeping with the best  principles and practice of Palliative Medicine.

Sincerely,

Perry Stein MD, FAAPMR, FAAHPM
