Dear Editor,

Now that Fort Monmouth has closed, the question is: Now What? One idea offered was to turn it into a government owned low-income housing project, which would create a Monmouth County version of Camden.

Both economically and culturally, Monmouth County needs more smart people with money to spend in our local economy. We lost a lot of people who would fall into those categories when Bell Labs in Holmdel closed and now the loss of Fort Monmouth (particularly CECOM) has been the icing on the cake.

Fort Monmouth should be turned into a special high-security business zone with no state taxes and very limited regulation exclusively for science, technology and defense companies. This would dramatically cut unemployment and bring innovation and money back into New Jersey.

Let’s make Fort Monmouth into the new Silicon Valley instead of Camden North. And while we're at it, let's include the old Bell Labs Holmdel Complex in the plan.
