VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES – SEPTEMBER 1, 2005

The Volunteer Center of Monmouth County offers many volunteer opportunities. It is located at 191 Bath Avenue, Long Branch, 732-728-1927, Open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday - 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Thursdays - 8:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

HOSPICE ASSISTANT

VITAS, a nursing home in Eatontown, is asking you to bring your pet to share with the patients, or to use your musical talents to entertain them. People are also needed to feed patients and to assist with administrative duties. The minimum age requirement is 16 for these ongoing activities. CHILD CARE

Family and Children’s Service of Long Branch is seeking someone to care for three children, ages 1, 2, and 3, for one hour one day a week at 6:30 p.m. in Long Branch. The minimum age requirement is 14. Contact: Monica Easley: 732-222-9111

READER

STUDENT MONITOR

RECEPTIONIST

OFFICE HELP

The Southern Monmouth County Area Chamber of Commerce, Wall Twp, is seeking volunteers to assist with programs and events, updating community resources and services, data entry, and general office work weekly from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The minimum age requirement is 18. LIGHT THE NIGHT WALK

SWITCHBOARD OPERATOR

THRIFT SHOP HELP

Family and Children’s Service is seeking help for its Castaways Thrift Shop. Volunteers will help with sorting, folding, and assisting customers. Help is needed Monday 10:00 a.m. to through Friday 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 PM. (Thursday until 6:00PM), and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Contact: Deborah Carr: 732-728-1238

FOOD PANTRY AIDE

The RSVP Food Pantry of Long Branch is in need of volunteers to answer phones and help clients with paperwork. Help is also needed to make up bags of food, stock shelves, and keep supplies in order. Contact: Greta Butler: 732-229-1878

READING BUDDIES

COMPANION

Family and Children’s Service HEARTH program is seeking volunteers for a program that promotes social and emotional support for the elderly. People are needed to visit clients, assist with paper work, shop, run errands when necessary and to provide some TLC. HANDY PERSONS are also needed for light repairs.
