Fun day for all ages along Sandy Hook Bay and Many Mind Creek
Celebrate 2005 National Estuary Day
4th Annual Green Space Kayak and Canoe Challenge
Saturday, September 24, 2005 (rain date Sunday, September 25)
9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Meet at beach at end of Avenue A, Atlantic Highlands, NJ (unless indicated below)
- Green Space Kayak & Canoe Challenge: Check-in time 9:00 a.m.
Distance: approx. 1.2 miles. Open to all competent kayakers and canoeists. No entry fee.
Participants 17 and under must be accompanied by parent/guardian.
- Beach clean-up: 11:00 am – 1:00 pm. Meet at gravel waterfront parking lot west of First Ave
- Waterfront Walk/Talk - Wagner Creek to Many Mind Creek: 1:30, 2:00, & 2:30 pm
Meet at gazebo on beach near Catamaran Club in Center Avenue Park (west of Avenue D). Park in gravel lot. Learn about aquatic life, shorebirds, land use and plans, beach access, waterfront history with experts from Audubon Society, NOAA Fish Habitat Restoration, Environmental Commission. One-hour tours start at 1:30, 2:00, and 2:30 pm.
- Kids activities, Kayak eco-tours, Hobie Cat rides and sail parade, seining, ultimate/golf Frisbee, and more. All day at Avenue A Beach and Center Ave. Park. Free fun, free scenery, free fresh air plus free snacks generously donated by Panera Bread (Rte 35, Middletown & Shrewsbury) and Whole Foods (Rte. 35, Middletown)
