HIGHLANDS, NJ - The HHRS High School Concert Band took first place on Saturday, June 1, 2013 at the awards ceremony held at the 2013 Music in the Parks Competition in Busch Gardens, Williamsburg, VA. A panel of judges composed of a distinguished history in the field of Music and Arts chose the winning bands. The top-placing bands were chosen from a field of bands from all over New York, New Jersey, North Carolina and Virginia that participated in the Competition on Saturday morning.
The competition for the HHRS High School Band was held at Bruton High School where they competed against many other high school concert bands. “They won the A division with a rating of ‘excellent’ and taking home the first place trophy,” boasted HHRS Music Director, Cody Holody. “We have worked hard for this award”’ he added. The concert featured music by Robert Sheldon performed by 55 members of our band. “The students looked astonishing in their new tuxedos and gowns funded by a grant from the Community Foundation of New Jersey received earlier this year,” said Lenore Kingsmore, Principal of Henry Hudson Regional School. “We are so proud of their achievements,” she added.
The competition for the Middle School Concert Band was held early morning before the high school bands. “They competed against other middle school concert bands receiving a ranking of ‘good’ and took home the Fourth Place trophy,” said Cody Holody. “The concert featured music by James Swearingen and Christian Earl, performed by 40 members of our band,” he added.

June 19th Last Day to Change Party Affiliation
The League of Women Voters of New Jersey reminds all citizens that New Jersey's special primary election for office of U.S. Senate will take place on Tuesday, August 13, 2013. The deadline to file a change of party affiliation is Wednesday, June 19.
“This is an unusual election and the League is committed to combating voter confusion and bolstering participation,” said Kerry Butch, Executive Director of the League of Women Voters of New Jersey. “Deadlines are quickly approaching and the League is stepping up our efforts to ensure voters are prepared to participate in all three upcoming elections.”
Only the Democratic and Republican parties will be on the ballot for the primary. New Jersey holds closed primaries, meaning voters select from candidates within their declared party. Any voter who declared a party when registering to vote or who previously declared a party during a primary is affiliated with that party and will only be allowed to vote in that party’s primary – unless he or she files a change of party affiliation by the deadline.
