Watch for upcoming Centennial Celebrations.
March 22, 1900 - March 22, 2000
Borough of Highlands, New Jersey

100 Years and Growing

In honor of the Highlands Centennial, we are pleased to present these photos from the collection of Highlands native, George Patterson. George kindly offered to share these family treasures which depict life in the early part of the 20th century.

In the photo gallery, you will see class pictures from 1896 and 1933, a parade of veterans and the Gold Star Mother's who attended Tea at Highlands in 1949, boarding homes on Fifth Street, and the old Alpine Manor under Twin Lights, and lots of family. After all - a small town is like a big family.

Next time you see George, tell him you saw his photos and thank him for sharing.

HIGHLANDS CENTENNIAL YEARBOOK AVAILABLE APRIL 1ST

As the Borough of Highlands prepared to celebrate the 100th year of its incorporation, the Council met with a representative of the Historical Society of Highlands to discuss the preparation of a Centennial Yearbook. The yearbook would continue the tradition begun for the 50th & 75th anniversaries. The Council wanted a history of the town, input from social and service groups and lots of pictures.

The Highlands Centennial Yearbook committee was organized under the leadership of John Tomasulo. Approximately 15 people took on the tasks of contacting community groups, gathering pictures, typing, soliciting financial support and plugging the project. The goal was - a completed project to present to the Mayor at the Celebration Dinner. And that goal was met on 3/22/00 when Mayor Richard O'Neil accepted the first copy of the yearbook.

The purchase price of the Centennial Yearbook is $10.00. It will be available beginning 4/1/00 at the Sand Dollar on Bay Avenue, Twin-Lights Lighthouse and, during 2000, at the various Centennial events.
