Welcome Snowman

Materials:

Picket fence or wood 3" to 4" wide (I used a picket fence that had a rotten bottom, I cut it off and the snowman measures 36" high)

Piece of wood to attach the picket fence for a stand. "Crosspiece" (Don't use a small piece like I did at first my snowman kept on falling. I ended up using a 4" x 4" square leftover wood.)

Piece of wood about 3" wide and 12" long for the sign

Dead sticks for arms

Primer /sealer paint, Wood Glue, hot glue

Acrylic paints- white, orange, black, pink, red or blue, Lavender, green

Assorted paintbrushes (use whichever ones you are comfortable with)

Wooden stars, hearts (accessories), Greenery

Scrap fabric material (I am not a sewer so I had no scraps. I went to Joanne's fabrics and purchased "fat quarters" I think that's what they're called for inexpensive. Now I have scraps because I could not decide on colors so I bought a whole bunch. Had I the time I would have knitted a hat and scarf for him. Or gone to a thrift store to buy inexpensive ones)

Drill with drill bits and Screws (I used drywall screws 'cause that's what I have handy. For those that are, more particular wood screws are best.)

Pinking Shears, Sponges compressed or checkerboard stencil or painters tape, paper towels, cotton swabs, fine black permanent pen.

 HOW TO:

  1. Prime the picket. Let dry and then sand. (I did not go crazy on the sanding my picket fence had all sort of cracks.)
  2. Paint the picket white. Let dry. Paint the board blue ( I used light blue, what I had at hand)
  3. Paint stars yellow. Cut a sponge into 1.5 " square. Sponge squares onto the crosspiece. ( I used painters tape to make my squares)
  4. Using cotton swabs dot on eyes and mouth in black and pink for cheeks. ( I dry brushed the cheeks with a red white mixture)
  5. Using black make 3 circles "buttons" on front. Let dry. ( I used a quarter for my size guide)
  6. Using a drill bit size that matches the sticks for arms, drill around 3" down from the head at an angle.
  7. Paint the nose in orange, making it a long triangular shape.
  8. Paint 2 small white dots on top of the black circle to look like buttons.
  9. Make lines and dots around the crosspiece with the permanent pen or brush and write your saying.
  10. Using wood glue, glue and screw in or nail in your cross piece.
  11. Wood glue in sticks for arms
  12. Hot glue stars, greenery around the crosspiece till you are happy with the accessories.
  13. Take your scrap fabric and put it around the face to form a hat. (I made it into a long rectangle, glue the "seam" glued it onto the head and took rubber band and tied the top. Then I cut into the top to make it like a pom pom. I also glued a star where my rubber band is.)
  14. Take another scrap use as a scarf. ( Here again had I the time I would have knitted or gone thrift store shopping)
  15. After all is dry, glue and screw in the bottom and finish with a varnish. (not necessary, I did because I like shine and it is on my outside porch)

ENJOY!

All feed back is welcome! Let me know what you want to read.
