The trend-setting restaurant Piazza Italia, located in Holmdel Commons, Hwy 35 South, once again delights its patrons, this time with authentic dishes from Italy’s most famous regions. Thursday, May 8, was an evening devoted to pleasing Monmouth County’s most popular Sicilianos.

Among the Middletowners were Joe Azzolina; Antoinette and Antonio Moscato, and Dina and Joe Curreri. Others enjoying the fare were Al Siano; Roberta and Erika Larsen; Bill Roberts, and Bernice Roberts. Antoinette, surely expressed the sentiments of all the diners, when she said “We are served fantastic food, in the friendliest place, and treated like family.”

As if to emphasize the authenticity of the tasty delights, one of the diners gave his approval with tears of nostalgia for the pasta with colifiori (cauliflower). He said that it tasted just like his mother’s.
Other dishes served in succession and eaten with gusto were Caponata, Sfingioni Marinara with anchovies, Baked rigatoni with eggplant, ricotta and mozzarella. Baccala with broccoli, and, among the entrees, were codfish and swordfish (spada) oreganata.

Next month, on Wednesday, June 11, Napolitane evening, will celebrate the Napoli region with its original regional dishes. Alfredo and Maria, joined by Tony Sorbraro will again treat their many patrons to a taste of foods never to be forgotten.
