Middletown Bicycle Rodeo May 17 at Swim Club

Middletown’s Bicycle Rodeo for students in grades K-5 will be held on Saturday, May 17 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Middletown Swim Club, 214 Harmony Road. This free event features an obstacle course, bicycle inspections, McGruff and Darren the DARE Lion, an art contest, and free raffles for bicycles and helmets. Parents are invited to bring their bikes and join their 4th and 5th graders on the bikeway. Rain Date is May 18.

Tyler Maxson, of Boy Scout Troop 122, is organizing the event for his Eagle Scout Project. The project is sponsored by Boy Scout Troop 122, Middletown Police Explorers, Middletown Police, and Parks and Recreation departments, Middletown Arts Center, Tom’s Atlantic Cyclery and Middletown PTAs.

Local League Defends The Shore Against The Bennies in May 17th Bout

Asbury Park, NJ - It's the ultimate battle of The Locals versus The Bennies. Asbury Park's famed Convention Hall will be transformed into a flat track roller derby rink as the ladies of the Jersey Shore Roller Girls storm in to defend their home turf against the Essex County-based on Saturday, May 17.  It marks the second interleague bout for the Jersey Shore Roller Girls, who have prepared a night of derby mayhem in their bid to continue their undefeated season.

History of the Route 36 Bridge to Sandy Hook

ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS, NJ - "History of the Route 36 Bridge to Sandy Hook" will be the topic of the May 21st meeting of the Atlantic Highlands Historical Society. Architectural historian and photographer Rob Tucher of The RBA Group, recently completed the official documentation of the Route 36 Shrewsbury River Bridge for the Historic American Engineering Record, a national archive of the federal Department of the Interior. In this talk, he will discuss and illustrate with slides the design, engineering significance and history of the bridge, which is soon to be replaced by the State.

AAA Survey Finds New Jersey To Be 10th Most Expensive Vacation Spot

HAMILTON, NJ – At $281 per day, New Jersey ranks as the 10th most expensive vacation destination in the country, according to AAA’s Annual Vacation Cost Survey, which is based on costs for two adults.

The 2008 national average is $244 per day, according to the survey, which calculates costs based on per-night lodging and three daily meals.
