david prown 120My Big Fat Greek Wedding (2002) was no doubt in my top 5 all-time surprise movies. I went knowing zero about it and it blew me away and l(opts of American movie lovers) and how enjoyable, simple and fun a movie could be.

When I saw that My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 was coming out now some 15 years after the original, When I saw that is I was like "wow". starred virtually the entire original cast I was both happy (as they were all so engaging) and sad knowing it would be a tough act to follow.

I definitely checked out reviews in advance of it which is a rarity for me & unfortunately, reviews were definitely a little all over the board.

With it being a 50/50 movie< I said what the heck I'll pay homage to such a great film and hope it could be respectfully good. I must admit I was a bit surprised at the good size of the audience 3 weeks after the movie released so I was more optimistic.

The first 10 or 15 minutes reminded me of the magic of the original and then it flat-lined. Not quite sure why the movie didn't really work.. except maybe that all aspects of this film were "tired"…from the quips to the script to the actors to the story line etc.

One of my great memories of the very original movie was the endless use of Windex as the magic potion to solve of the world's problems. In this sequel it appeared once in the first two minutes of the film and once in the last 2 minutes of the film. The absence of that storyline and several others just made the film rather bland.

Not so surprising for a sequel. Actually might be a more enjoyable film for those that never saw the original.
