david prown 120I remember going to the original Jurassic Park movie and being totally freaked out.  In fact, I watched the movie between my fingers while simultaneously hiding behind the seat in front of me.  So with the new movie choices last weekend of "Jurassic World" and "Spy", it was a no-brainer that I was heading to the latter starring Melissa McCarthy.

It was mindless fun but boy is she getting type-cast as this oversized, rough around the edges comedic tough girl.  It really worked in "Heat" with Sandra Bullock, but now is really starting to get tiring the 3rd/4th time around.  Actually, was quite refreshing seeing her as a sincere, single Mom in "St. Vincent" last year.

Hey the movie was fun and forgettable.  Maybe more shocked by the pretty course language which drove the movie to R.  Not sure the strategy behind that move, yet the theatre was decently full (probably because Jurassic World was sold out).  Small character actor pieces played by Jude Law, Jason Statham, Allison Janney and Bobby Cannavale was impressive in terms of A- list actors.

I'm sure this movie will do fine in the box office but this young lady needs to recast herself. Also the 1st 10 minutes was so "James Bond-ish"...I'm thinking ..hello lawsuit.

No need to tell the story.  If you need to escape to the theaters while chuckling and yawning during the same film, "Spy" will work for you on the big screen or Netflix or streamed.
