So as I nestled into my seat in The Showroom movie theatre, I was thinking about how lucky I am to live in an area with both the Red Bank independent movie theater and this independent theater in Asbury Park.
Someday, in the future, I might retire and leave this Jersey Shore area. I think about what will the new area needs to have to keep me happy. I'm a pretty simple guy, so proximity to family, a few tennis courts; the lesser served population so I can continue some form of volunteering; some decent girls high school basketball teams and be located near both 1st run and an arts/independent movie theaters.
The independent movies can be pretty shaky, but I love that I have the opportunity to be able to see them on a pretty big screen vs watching at home or on some laptop.
Any movie starring Maggie Gyllenhaal always catches my attention plus having Michael Fassbender, I was interested. I never heard a peep about this movie, so I checked out the preview and looked pretty good.
This movie "Frank" puts the "W" in weird or wacky or way out there or whatever. I won't even try to describe this film I'll let you research it on line and see if you can find a reviewer that can capture it. Kept waiting for something to happen (for me) and just didn't. I couldn't connect with the characters, the story, the genre...simply nothing.
Regardless, there are movies our there that simply just don't work sometimes. However, I look at it with the glass half full. I know for every "Zonk of a movie", I'm that must closer to seeing a good one (I find most pretty good).
