david prown 120I have a sense I saw previews about the film “Boyhood” quite a while ago and looked quite engaging.  But where the heck in this world am I going to find time for a pre-movie nap and 2 hr. and 42 minute saga?

The stars aligned today, took an eye-resting 13 minute nap, had half a cup of coffee and prayed that the film was engaging...IT WAS!!!  I had no clues when this movie would end but it kept me locked in.

So this well known director Richard Linklater films this family over 12 straight years. We watch the children Ethan (Ellar Cotrane) and his sister Sam Lorilei Linklater (Daughter of the director) literally grow up before our eyes. Plus we watched the parental and personal growth of the divorced parents (Ethan Hawke & Patricia Arquette).

Seamlessly a scene would change and they were a year older.  You could never see it coming and it really worked.

Just watching both individually and collectively the journey of this family was son captivating.  Sort of like a reality TV show but with more realistic personal and home issues (that relate to all our lives).  And the interrelationships were top shelf and captivating.

I loved that they left sex/nudity out of it (it was implied) yet the film was peppered with spicy real life language.

Checking out Rottentomatoes.com after seeing the film and writing the review, I’m seeing an unheard of 99% positive rating from the critics and a 90% positive from the viewers.  That is legendary and you need to see this project, this epic, this outstanding piece of film making.

GOOD STUFF!
