This movie simply involves an Algerian immigrant (with a complicated but just past) who is quickly hired to replace a popular Montreal public school teacher who committed suicide in her classroom.
Seems like a good guy but since male grade school teachers are that common, one keeps expecting the other shoe to drop. Monsieur Lazhar has a fine teaching style, clearly loves his work and helps the kids thru this most difficult time. We also discover thru this grieving process his own personal grief.
Again, I kept waiting for something horrible to happen and thank goodness it doesn't. So this french, sub-titled film has just a little tension that keeps doubt. Yet it is Monsieur Lazhars time in the classroom and dialog back and forth with the kids that is most enjoyable.
I really enjoyed this nice film
