The 2016 presidential race promises to be interesting. The list of Republican candidates seeking the nomination is endless: New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, former governor of Florida, Jeb Bush, physician/author/activist Dr. Ben Carson, U.S. Senator Ted Cruz (Texas), former governor of Arkansas, Mike Huckabee, businessman Donald Trump, and countless others I've never heard of. The Democratic candidates include, among others, former U.S. Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, and former governor of Maryland, Martin O'Malley. Fighting the odds, the lesser known Limberbutt McCubbins from Kentucky recently threw his hat into the ring.
Or perhaps he threw his litter box .Limberbutt McCubbins is a cat.
Inherently savvy enough to utilize social media (cats are naturally clever), McCubbins' launched a Facebook page presently boasting 7,630 likes. Candidate McCubbins is a Democrat or, as he claims, a “Demo-cat,” who has wisely chosen the catchy slogan, “Together we cat!” The kitty candidate does not shy away from the issues. In addition to supporting same sex marriage for cats, the legalization of catnip, environmental protection and space exploration, McCubbins promotes The Affordable Cat Act. According to his website (www.limberbutt2016.com), McCubbins views The Affordable Cat Act as “an important measure that will also help to subsidize the costs of spaying/neutering, as well as helping to cover the costs of surgeries.” Additionally, McCubbins promises to campaign for increased H-1B visas “to allow more foreign cats to work here in the United States.” One wonders, however, if The Affordable Cat Act includes funding and promoting TNR (Trap-Neuter-Release) programs to control the rapidly growing feral cat population. Perhaps that's a question McCubbins will address going forward or at the Democratic debate. (And here's another: why is he named Limberbutt? There has to be a joke in there somewhere.)
Limberbutt McCubbins is a man – cat - of the people, who knows what it's like to be down and out; McCubbins is a rescue and apparently proud of it. “Owned” (though all cat lovers realize nobody owns a cat) by Emilee McCubbins, a senior at duPont Manual High School in Louisville, Kentucky, and assisted by fellow senior Isaac Weiss, McCubbins has submitted the required Statement of Candidacy, and as such, is an official presidential candidate for 2016. And why not? If you consider the line-up, there are a lot of nuts running for president. Why not a cute, clever, tabby cat? Limberbutt McCubbins 2016!
