NATIONAL AFRICAN AMERICAN READ-IN AT MONMOUTH UNIVERSITY

Children and Adults will read literature by African American Authors

EVENT: National African American Read-In

Date: Monday, February 6

Time: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Location: Monmouth University, Student Center, Anacon Hall

West Long Branch, NJ (January 31, 2012) Monmouth University and the West Side Christian Academy (WSCA) will present the 2012 National African American Read-in on Monday, February 6, from 9 a.m to 2 p.m.   The event is free and open to the public and will be held in Monmouth University’s Student Center, Anacon Hall. 

Students, teachers, parents, elected officials, and friends will join the National African American Read-In and read literature written by African-American authors.   The event focuses attention on literacy during Black History Month.

For twelve years, WSCA has participated in the National African American Read-In.  This year over 200 people are expected to participate.

SCHEDULE

Readings will be held from 8:45 a.m. to 1:45 p.m.

Students from West Side Christian Academy, Asbury Park Middle School, and Red Bank Regional High School will read during the event.  In addition, the following elected officials and community leaders will participate:

9:30 a.m.        Reverend Sheila Brown
