SHREWSBURY – Music will fill the air at the Monmouth County Library’s Eastern Branch next month as the library celebrates Christmas with both an inter-active production and a presentation by the Monmouth Civic Chorus.
“Cheer Up…It’s Christmas!”, a holiday show presented by LT Productions, will be at the library on Sunday, Dec. 10 at 2 p.m. In the story of how one optimistic passenger among many stranded at a bus station during a blizzard changes the mood with song, LT Productions includes audience members as the stranded passengers and invites improv entertainment with jokes, songs, and stories.
The Monmouth Civic Chorus will present a program of Holiday Caroling on Saturday, Dec. 16, at 2 p.m. The award-winning community chorus, who have performed at Carnegie Hall, St. Peter’s in the Vatican and St. Stephen’s Cathedral in Vienna, will carol around the library during their hour-long presentation of music of the season.
The Library is continuing its current exhibit celebrating the 200th anniversary of author Jane Austen with a unique presentation designed by staff members Erin Baird and Christina Caputo. Capitalizing on Austin’s era’s fascination with paper dolls, the staff members have created life-sized mannequins in accurate literacy dress symbolic of the Regency style. As part of the celebration of Austin’s life, the library is also inviting visitors to participate in a Fanciful Guessing Game similar to the simple amusements and educational fames popular in Austen’s parlor room during her lifetime. Visitors are invited to guess which Austen book is contained in a glass candy jar. A winner will be chosen randomly from all correct answers and will receive a Friends of the Monmouth County Library tote bag.
As with all programs, there are no fees for attendance at any of the programs, and all are invited to attend. Advance reservations are not necessary.
