All five candidates for the two seats up for election on the Borough Council have been invited to participate in a debate at 8 PM Friday, Oct. 20 at the Community Center, Snug Harbor Ave.

Former Mayor and current candidate Frank Nolan called for the debate and invited the four other candidates on the ballot Nov. 7 to respond and participate.  Candidates Rosemary Ryan, and Ken Braswell have not yet responded, Nolan said, but candidates Greg Wells and John Coberg have indicated they will be there.

Moderator for the debate will be Muriel J. Smith, a staff writer for the Monmouth Journal and frequent contributor to the Atlantic Highlands Herald and other publications on historic subjects. Smith, who was a Highlands resident for 40 years and has lived in Freehold ten years, has moderated Highlands debates in the past. Former editor of The Courier, Middletown, she is a member of the Monmouth County Historical Commission as well as several local historical associations.

Terms of the debate enable each candidate to give a brief introductory remark and the opportunity answer questions both posed by the moderator and those in attendance at the debate, as well as received at Smith’s e-mail address at This email address is being protected from spambots.
