Elvis in the 50’s Concert at Middletown Township Public Library
Middletown Township Public Library located at 55 New Monmouth Road is proud to present Ruben Castillo performing Elvis in the 50’s. It's the Fifties! A feel-good time in America and abroad! The Korean War has ended and it's a time of great prosperity for everyone. But a Cold War between the Soviet Union and the U.S. has begun, as well as the race to be the first in space. And while white teenagers in the South were at the drive-in or at a hamburger joint, their black counterparts were being forced to use separate lunch counters and bathrooms.
Down in Memphis, a young man named Elvis Presley is about to change the world with his sideburns, shaky legs, and a voice that "didn't sound like nobody". His journey from being The Hillbilly Cat, to Elvis the Pelvis, to The King of Rock 'n' Roll begins in this edition! Come back to a time when people Liked Ike, Loved Lucy, and hated those Damn Yankees!. Sponsored by the Friends of Middletown Library. The free concert will take place in the library’s Community Room on Saturday August 19th at 2:00. The Middletown Township Library is conveniently located just one-third of a mile east of Route 35 North.
