AH GOP AGENDA - OPEN AND HONEST

Most readers of this newspaper can see through the barrage of mud currently being slung at me by operatives of the Donoghue Democrats. It is sad that these prolific letter writers chose to attack rather than point to accomplishments by their party in nearly two years in office. Voters deserve to know what they are getting, and once again, the Atlantic Highlands GOP has put forth its agenda on several issues for the coming years.

My running mate, Pete Doyle, and I will fight against overdevelopment on the McConnell Tract and our waterfront properties. We will try to preserve property where we can, but recognize that if something is going to get built, it should conform to the current zoning that is in effect. The Atlantic Highlands GOP has had success fighting high density in the past, and the 46 acres of Lenape Woods is the testament to that truth.

When voters pull the lever for the GOP this fall, they know that Atlantic Highlands Republicans will be watching out for the taxpayer. The practice of hiring at the top of the pay scale will be rescinded and residents can be assured that $95 per hour for temporary help will no longer be the norm. The professionals hired by the council to advise them will be experienced in their field, and learning municipal law on the public’s dime will not be tolerated.

We will bring stability to borough hall, so that our residents don’t have to suffer through four different code enforcement officers in one year. There won’t be any “gray areas” when it comes to voting on leases or lawsuits. If there is any whiff of a conflict, Mr. Doyle and I will recuse ourselves immediately.

We will reinstate the policy of allowing resident’s statements to be read into the record, or written comments to be included and we will answer tough questions. And your bills will never be “privileged and confidential.”

Republicans will continue to seek grants to offset taxes and improve our infrastructure. Our past history shows many roads that have been repaved with grants, and we will continue to revitalize First Avenue through our Streetscape initiative. It was Republican grants that got it started, and residents can be guaranteed that we will see the project to completion.

Finally, residents can believe our word. We won’t promise referendums that never come or sewer rate reductions that have yet to happen. Micromanaging the town’s affairs from borough hall will be out, and treating our residents as valued clients will be the order of the day. Don’t expect the Democrat operatives to like this column because it tells the truth, and our residents deserve to have a clear plan for their future. For more see: www.ahgop.net
